Centec TAP Series Switches support bypass and in-line deployment in enterprise or Data Center network. It supports various TAP functions, including:
- M: N Flow mapping
- Tagging source port by VLAN
- LAG as output port
- Load balancing based on L2, L3 and L4 header.
In the case of tunnel processing, the switches support de-encapsulating VxLAN header, and tagging different VLAN according to VNI. Centec TAP switch can also modify IPDA/SA and MACDA/SA to reach specified security device.
The in-line mode is also a typical mode to deploy the TAP switch. The principle is very close to optical splitter with more flexibility in the network topology and application scenarios.
In this mode, the TAP switch is usually deployed at the network gateway for two major functionalities: traffic guiding and load balancing. On top of this with programmable north bound interfaces, it is easy to make service chaining.
After gathering traffic on the TAP switch, user could configure to guide the traffic to firewall to make the first filtering. Then the traffic could be distributed to multiple audit and monitoring devices. In case of more than one such network appliance exists, user could enable the load balancing functionality on the TAP switch.
